Goat Island Storm Stoppers Testimonial – Hurricane Ike

Goat Island Storm Stoppers Testimonial – Hurricane Ike

October 10, 2008

Dear Storm Stoppers®:

I bought Storm Stoppers® in June of 2008 to replace my old plywood shutters.  I’m almost 70 years old.  Following your color installation instructions, I cut the panels with a box cutter and installed them myself.  I like Storm Stoppers® as they are easy to mount to my 2nd story windows and the product is lightweight and easy for my wife to reinstall if I’m not home.

Our home is in Oak Island (aka Anahuac) in Chambers County, Texas.  It sits approximately 300 yards East of Trinity Bay.  In advance of Hurricane Ike, we evacuated on Wednesday, September 10 and then the hurricane hit our area the evening of Friday, September 12.  When we returned that Sunday, our home was one of the few left standing.  Prior to Hurricane Ike’s arrival, there were 22 structures between our house and Trinity Bay.  Hurricane Ike leveled all of them, including 14 homes on pylons, 7 homes on the ground and 1 travel trailer.

Hurricane Ike was a strong Category 2 Hurricane with winds exceeding 110 mph.  I believe my house is still standing because of Storm Stoppers®.  They protected our windows and prevented the roof from blowing off.  We love the product!
