Challenge:
We recently received a call from Texas City Texas home owner who wanted to reduce the amount of heat and sunlight coming into his home through the windows. This customer had a increased exposure to solar energy due to his house being elevated and his proximity to Galveston Bay. He was receiving light both directly from the sun and also from the reflection of the water. He had already invested in energy efficient vinyl replacement windows which did help with the heat, but the light was still pouring through. He had a spectacular view of the bay, the afternoon heat and excessive light was forcing his family to keep their blinds tightly closed. He needed a window solution that would greatly reduce both light and heat and maybe free the family to open the blinds and see the bay. Also, it was very important to keep the budget in mind. We new just what was needed.
The Solution:
Product: Solar screens
Fabric: Phifer Suntex 90 ( most restrictive fabric)
Color:Gray mesh with white frame
Fastening system: special adhesive fasteners (no screws in vinyl windows)
We recommended exterior solar screens because of their low cost and we recommended the Suntex 90 mesh due to the need to greatly reduce light and heat. With the large number and larger size of the bay facing windows, Suntex 90 would deliver a more comfortable level of light. Solar window screens are a fantastic way to reduce heat and light, while still allowing outward visibility. With a dealer's limited lifetime year warranty, these screens are an economical choice for any application. We installed the screens with a heavy duty 1" wide frame which is always recommended for solar screens.
The customer chose the gray fabric with white frame.
This customer was very pleased with the look and function of these screens. The price was within the budget, and the reduced heat was felt immediately.
