The problem:

A Galveston family recently called Texas Window Solutions because they wanted to spend more time on their porch that overlooks the bay.  Nature was giving them three big problems that made their porch difficult to use – heat, bugs and wind.  They wanted to enclose their porch to keep out the bugs, and they needed relief from the late afternoon sun. Because they live directly on the bay, they were also looking for a way to control the wind to a level that was just right.  This was quite a challenge, but we knew just what to do.

The solution:

A combination of fixed bug/solar screens and retractable solar screens with side mounted tracks.

Screen Mesh by Phifer

Mesh: “Bug/solar” on the fixed screens ( a good combination of heat reduction, ventilation and bug barier)

“Suntex 80” on the retractable screens (solid heat reduction)

Colors: black mesh (customer’s choice) and white frame to match the porch

Side channels and header boxes were installed to give the screens a finished look and to keep the screen in place on more windy days.  The bottom of each retractable screen also has a bar that slides up and down in the side channels and keeps the screen in place.
